Wednesday’s Show
Pete’s welcoming two guests today, in addition to your calls.
Vegan blogger Laura Beck will be the first challenger on “Change Pete’s Mind,” a new segment where guests try to convince Pete that he’s on one wrong path or another. We expect to have a lot of fun with it, as we’ll be welcoming people with a diverse range of viewpoints to work Pete over on their pet issue. Laura’s formidable task is to convince Pete to adopt a vegan lifestyle. But that would mean foregoing much of his wife’s excellent cooking as well as those semi-secret trips to McDonald’s and his reputed patronage of tigersex.com, which Pete recently described on the air as a website showing “men doing it with Bengal tigers” (that can’t be vegan!).
Also chatting it up with Pete will be Dr. Patrick Swift, PhD, author of One Mountain, Many Paths. Dr. Swift says:
Working for peace in the world is not just the job of diplomats and politicians. It involves you, me, and our neighbors next door - even if they live on the other side of the planet. True and lasting peace for the world can only be attained through mutual respect and understanding for one another - not through violence - and I believe that we all have a part in supporting peace in our communities and in our world.
We’ll see if the good doctor wants to get any more specific than that.
There’s talk around the studio that blogcaster extraordinaire and former Ultimate Fighting contender Joe Salzone will throw down the gauntlet, challenging the peace-loving Dr. Swift to a mixed martial arts cage match.
I found Ms. Beck to be very convincing. Let us know what conclusions you come to when thinking her points over.
Despite my slight disappointment at the absence of discussion about tigersex.com, I thought the interview was great. The state of the factory farming industry is bad for our health and the environment. I really liked how Laura showed a consciousness about how her consumption habits in other areas weren’t the most righteous; it was a very reasonable perspective on veganism.
Just got Sirius and tuned in after seeing Pete open at a taping of the Colbert Report. The vegan lady was a lot more interesting than the God talk. Good show, I’ll tune in again.
Loved the interview with Laura Beck. By chance I actually got the chance to meet her briefly a few years ago. In person she was so funny and really gracious (and, incidentally, really beautiful) and really convinced me. She’s a total departure from the self-righteous granola type. Even though veganism is still a sort of radicalized practice, I think with more and more people like her, going meatless might become much more mainstream. She rocks!
i loved the interview with the vegan! she was funny and had some really great points too. more with her please.
Dr. Patrick was the highlight of that show for me. So refreshing to see people with a foot in the spiritual and psychological. I’ll definitely be picking up his book.
Anybody have any ideas on what they should do next for Change Pete’s Mind? Buddhism maybe?
Hard to propose this kind of thing when he seems so god damn reasonable about everything…
As I enjoyed the Laura Beck interview due its basic agree to disagree laid back just like the Pete Dominick style of debate, I do have to say after finish my medium-rare steak and sunny side up eggs then wash it down with a cool glass of milk, I’m gonna relax for a bit on my leather couch, then maybe go thorw the ole pig skin around. But seriously, I do respect Laura’s lifestyle since she could back it up with orginality and a laugh.
