The Colbert Interview

So now the interview has played. I heard it when you did. It was a really great look into Colbert’s mind, but I was personally a little disappointed. The fast back-and-forth moments were the best by far.

Colbert with Flag

Pete asked some of the questions I wrote for him, but nothing about Dungeons and Dragons, which has me kind of sad. What did you all think? What do you want to know about Stephen Colbert.

Update: Lots of places have picked up on the interview. Here are some links:

I love any interview with Stephen, but I was a little saddened to hear him tell stories that he’s told before. I get that you wanted to talk about the WHCD and the fact that he won’t let his kids watch his show, but Pete, you should know of all people that he gets asked those questions every day from the audience.

However - Stephen trying to define a donky punch wayyy made up for that!

This was the first time I’d heard Stephen break out of his perpetual character, which almost seemed a little unnerving. The consistency and conviction with which he portrays a typical right-wing pundit makes it hard to remember that he’s not really such a guy. He’s one of the most brilliant satirists (and actors) of our time, no doubt. I didn’t know you did his warm-up, I’ll have to make it down to the city to catch a taping.

I’d been waiting great anticipation to hear this interview and it did not disappoint. Stephen Colbert and John Stewart are two of the single most brilliant comedians on television.

I wish you had gotten a chance to get him talking about what a hardcore geek he is. It’s one of the things that makes him so cool, and it always makes my day when hints of the depths of his geekitude poke out.

    Geek pride yo!

Another question that should be asked relating to his geekyness is this. Is he a Macintosh user geek or a PC user geek?

I always love hearing Stephen out of character and he seemed very comfortable with you (probably because you work with him) but it allowed him to be a lot less uptight than he normally is during interviews. And donkey punch? Fucking hilarious.

I loved the interview Pete. Just the two of you shooting the breeze - and the image of Stephen doing Pilates… I was wondering: did you also indulge in exercise to keep from going stir crazy?

I’m not a freak, I promise! I loved the interview. It really was the best one that I’ve heard him give. Funniest. And, I’ve heard them all, I think. Now, I’ve got to upgrade to a sirius radio so I can listen to you more often >:) Def a Colbert Bump, baby!

Fuckin rocking interview. Pete, you rule. Thanks for showing us the true Steve as well. His quick-wit and spontaneous humor is top notch.

Hey next time, instead of him explaining the Donkey Punch, can you get him to discuss the Shocker or maybe the Vulcan?
