Pete, first of all thanks for the air time and secondly thanks for bringing this to your listeners attention. Between Randy Pausch and Robert Schimmel, these are people we need to look up to and take direction from and personally even though these two people have been just introduced to me in a nondirect way, these two are huge influences. When you can get through losing a child and surviving the same disease, or know that your an estimated few months from death and still have the motivation to keep going and educate.
I asked myself how can I possibly be upset that the car in front of me cut me off, or another trucker just threatened to kick my ass because I asked if theres any parking spots at the Flying J. (True story). How can that upset me when thats the least of my problems. My fiance listened to the show from another room and she’ll make sure I live to your words, Pete. When I have kids, I’ll be sure to make sure they’re heard, make sure they have manners. Its not because of what you said, either. Its because I have a good moral up bringing and after seeing what some people go through, your right, you have to tend all of your available time to your loved ones. Thanks again Pete.

People in this country are basically nice to each
other however I have to say that New Yorkers are
probably the most obnoxious of all Americans. While
I visited Manhattan last August I saw a number of
Broadway shows. They treat theatre patrons like
cattle even though they’ re paying big $$$ for their
seats. Once you get inside, the staff people are
very rude. Not so in Los Angeles where the shows are
every bit as good now. Once I went to Long Island
and asked someone for directions and he responded,
are looking for a “gay prostitute”. I don’t look
gay but he obviously sensed that I was not a local
of Oyster Bay so felt he good be an asshole. I have
never experienced this before in any other city.

Well I guess the amount of posts to this really tells you how much America cares.

  4. March 27th, 2008 | 9:52 pm

Yeah, Scott, that kind of troubles me, too. I do hope people watched it. Maybe we’re just looking for stuff to fight over. This certainly isn’t fodder for much disagreement, I should hope.

Come on guys…really, what is there to say to that? It was very moving, but it really speaks for itself.

Anybody have any strong opinions on dying guys who want us to be good people?

  6. March 28th, 2008 | 12:58 pm

Travis I hope you die and no one watches your deathbed pleas for world peace, you heartless bastard ;-)

    Ha…ahah

Really though, it was quite moving. Though I would have been moved by his words whether he was dying or not. The periodic flashes to the people in the audience tearing up was a bit much to me, but it’s not his fault that Oprah is a manipulative genius with a legion of thralls that rival the Church of Scientology.

I am in disturbed awe of that woman…

New Yorkers are just as nice as everyone else (and go fuck yourself).
You went to a broadway show and they treated you badly? I think ushers are generally assholes, that’s been my experience at all shows. Having said that… what kind of douche bag goes to Broadway shows?
Oh, and then your next example is someone on long island… everyone knows Long Islanders are dick-heads… however, they’re not “new yorkers”.

    I’m kidding…

I have lived all over the place and seriously I find that New Yorkers are generally ruder in the service industry, but in day to day life, you would find they are just as hospitable as any place else.

Pete, I’m sorry I got everyone to talk about your non-shaved balls this morning… that wasn’t my intention.

I think that the whole topic of how one leans on issues is confused by the partisanship that people have come to feel about their affiliations. The guy who called in right after me said that he’s a Democrat and would only vote for a Democrat… his big shift was that he was now open to voting for Obama, whereas before he as only going to consider Clinton.

The problem as I see it is that if we don’t modify the way we elect people into office, and by that I mean, reform the entire election process so that third party candidates actually have a shot at winning, we’re never going to transcend this.

Maybe I worded what I said wrong, Travis you do have a point, what do you comment on? Well, Monday’s show was about that topic and it kinda bombed after awhile. But to call Opera a Scientolgist is a bit harsh, even though I don’t know her real religion, but seriously here we go, can’t we stay off of religion for once? And would it really have had the same movement if he wasn’t dying? Sure you can argue everyone is dying at birth, well fuck that, this guy has a better idea then we all do. I don’t think me talking about dying would have the same effect. The point of the show really was to try to get people to give more of a damn about their neighbors. We can all give more of a shit, we really can. Even though we’re all guilty, Pete has a point, do we really need to get upset about something that won’t effect us after that moment is over? As a country we can do better, thats what my point was.

On Friday July 25, 2009 Prof. Randy Pausch passed away from the effects from his cancer, he was 47. I still recoomend everybody hit up youtube.com and search Randy Pausch. His messages are clear and something I truely believe in. And, admitingly need to work on bettering. Randy will be missed by the many people he came in contact with and sent his message to, but most of all he will be missed by his wife and 3 children. Rest in peace Randy Pausch the country needs more people like you, you will certainly be missed.

The only problem I have with his philosophy is the idea that everyone has some good in them. Just wait to see it.
    How about Charles Manson?
He should have qualified his statement to sane people.

    Steve from Jasper Reply:

After Thought: He also talked about being in his office at 10 PM. To me this is a workaholic.
I think a man should be more devoted to his family than work.
If all you think about is getting ahead at the expense of your relationship with your family then you’ve lost the game.
Americans wonder why the family unit has crumbled.
    Look in the mirror.
I don’t the guy is a hero or someone to look up to myself.
