Fuckup Showdown
So Sen. Barrack Obama either just admitted he’s a secret Muslim (the worst Muslim ever, since he’s not observing Ramadan!), or he misspoke when he referred to “my Muslim faith” in an interview on ABC’s This Week.
Meanwhile, Gov. Sarah Palina misrepresented the relationship between Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and the American public at a rally in Colorado Springs. It’s not clear that she even knew what these institutions are or do, but all sorts of theories are popping up to explain what she meant to say, or why she’s actually correct if you twist truthiness just right, while others are simply insisting that a Vice Presidential candidate doesn’t need to understand the forces behind the US housing market as a couple callers insisted today.
Pete says Obama made a slip-up but Palin exposed a fundamental lack of understanding of one of the major economic issues of the moment (the biggest of the day).
Then again, Pete also referred to the war on Iraq as a “mistake” instead of a wildly immoral, patently illegal act of unjustified aggression. So maybe it’s all a matter of perspective.
So what’s the truth in either case? Obama a secret, unobservant Muslim? Palin needs to take a remedial economics course? I’m volunteering to tutor her! I TA’ed Macroeconomics 103 at The American University in 1994, so I’m clearly qualified!
Ya know what, both of these candidates are going to say whatever it takes to try to get elected (misspeaking excepted).
It’s like choosing between a turd or diarrhea.
Do you like it runny or hard?
It’s still you know what.
Sorry, but I’m kinda sick of the whole thing.
No wonder the general public gets apathetic!
You know either one is only going to fulfill 10% of their promises if we’re lucky.
I love being positive!

F-ing hilarious. He was tired? How can Pete the obama pipe smoker defend this one.
If obama doesn’t have a script it’s like watching britteny spears read shakespeare.

Hahaha, that video is awesome. I hadn’t seen it. Now I know both Obama and McCain can’t speak without a script. We’re fucked.

Samuels drives me nuts. From what I’ve heard, she is a dedicated liberal. I find no use in people who would have rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Listen to her show when pete’s show isn’t on. You will be very suprised. She is not a barack obama fan by any stretch of your imagination. She is very entertaining.

It’s just a saying radicals have about liberals. The country is falling apart (titanic is sinking) and they’re content to make cosmetic changes or minor reforms to society. That’s how I personally see the Democratic Party, as the wing of the Corporate Party that doesn’t want to appear quite so crass as their GOP counterparts. They all want to fuck us in the tush, but the Dems insist on using lube.

Barak could have ended the Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show with that speech. a-bdeee a-bdeee… dats all folks!!
I think Pete is drinking a bit of the Obama Kool-Aid on this one. Palin’s gaff is what it is and maybe she is clueless and maybe not but that’s what economic advisers are for. Not knowing about the economy and forgetting your religion are two very different gaffs. To me forgetting your religion implies an outright lie whereas not knowing much about fanny-mae or freddy-mack shows a bit of ignorance.
I’m sorry I could not leave it at that. I personally am sick and tired of our sorry ass, two party, choose your own shitty adventure, political machine that does what the fuck it wants without any regard for the people it fucks over in the process. I hate Obama and I hate McCain and I want to vomit every time I think that people believe that their only option is to choose between socialism and fascism. There are other choices and they are not all “crazies”. I am a member of the Libertarian party since 2004 when we had two other shining examples of the best our country has to offer. I really do think that these third parties, especially the Libertarian party, are given bad names by he crazies that do make calls into radio shows. I think if more people actually took the time to read the Libertarian platform they would realize that there is much to be desired about the party. Not to mention that it would introduce competition for the fascists and socialist and competition always makes things better for the consumer. I think the media does a disservice to the people in campaign coverage because they worry about Obama’s religion and Palin’s daughters baby instead of giving that time to a legitimate third party candidate. We could have the greatest renaissance in our history and the media could be the foundation for this if they would really give equal time to all candidates and really be “fair and balanced”. I am sorry to have derailed a bit but as the famous scene in “Network” goes “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore!!!!!”
Perhaps I am a little out of touch, but how the hell did Obama “forget his religion”?
He claims to be christian but made the “my Muslim faith” gaff in an interview.
Oh shit!! Don’t tell me you seriously think he is a Muslim? Even if he is a Muslin, he would be the worst damn Muslim on the face of the planet.
Now, the speach where the teleprompter went out… that was fucked. I can’t believe how much of a train wreck Obama is when he doesn’t have people telling him what to say.
By the way, that is not an indirect endorsement of McCain.
No, I do not and honestly I don’t care what religion he is to me it is irrelevant. I think no one makes that mistake though. Have you ever heard a Jew say anything about his or her Christan faith or a Muslim say anything about his or her Jewish faith no. Why? It doesn’t happen which makes me think he is lying about either being Christian or being Muslim. Which he is I don’t care that he is lying I do care.

I honestly don’t believe Obama is lying about his faith. As I watch the video (I also saw the entire interview) it appears that he was saying that McCain himself is not calling him a Muslim. We all misspeak that way. Pete used to say his daughter was 3 when she was 3 months and he did that sort of thing several times as she grew in months. If you have solid evidence that Obama is a Muslim, that’s a different story but thus far it is pure speculation. The media loves to promote these ideas—makes their news more interesting. Maybe the idea that he is a Muslim is just what you WANT to believe.
With Palin’s mistake, she has advisors and speech writers. They should have made sure she was aware. Someone made the comment that the candidates can’t possibly know everything. That is certainly true, but this mortgage crisis is not some obscure event that hasn’t been widely publicized. It is of major importance to us all, and she should know the correct circumstances.
I do agree that listening to Obama orate is such a pleasure when he is giving a speech, but when he is being interviewed, he is painfully slow to come up with words (guess he’s trying too hard not to make a gaffe) he wants to use. I feel like I want to hurry him up or give him the words.
Like Steve from Jasper says, this campaign has become tiresome. As Erik from NY says, the two-party system sucks. Many of us are greatly frustrated with the whole business it seems.

I totaly agree when it comes to the pain that is fealt when Obama speaks. I have no doubt in my mind that he is acutely aware of the damage that a single slip up (especialy along the lines of Palin’s) could do to his campaigne. The Rpublicans would have grabbed that sound bite and ran like the Kenyan olympic team.

do you blame them?
Given the explanation, I agree. It would be amazing if he actually had any real faith at all to be honest. I have a hard time understanding how anyone with any degree of education could believe in god.
Perhaps that is only me.

this agnostic believes that perhaps this IS only you “other” canadian Erik. to imply that there is a relationship between education and faith could be quite insulting to Christians, don’t you think? Although I’m quite sure Brian might back you here. You of course have a right to your opinion, but it bothers me a little when people seem to say that to be Christian or “of faith” is to be uneducated. weak minded however? for me, maybe i’d buy into that one.
later!
Eric.
Pete does this kind of thing at least 5 times during every show. When I teach a class 3 times in one day, I do it at least that many times. When you talk all day for a living, you say backwards shit that you don’t mean on a regular basis. If I kept track of every time Pete used one word when he meant another, even the opposite, I’d have a notebook filled in the last 6 months alone. Anyone who talks that much would have that problem. That could be the case with either Obama or Palin. It’s nothing beyond that. Of course, a royal disaster like Obama’s teleprompter mishap incident, that’s something altogether different.
Well I am a college graduate and I am a Christian. However I do not practice my faith with any organized religion. To me there is a very big difference between someone’s faith and religion. Once something becomes religion then it is corrupted and hypocritical. You have a hard time understanding how an educated person could believe in God and I have a hard time understanding how anyone could not want to admit the existence of a higher power. Personally I believe it to be somewhat egotistical to believe so as fallible men produce fallible processes that result in fallible and incomplete theories which require a measure of faith to believe also. This however is a topic for another time. But do not worry you are not the only one who sees things your way. I am sure that I am in the minority in my views though however they are mine and I am content with them and you should be content in yours at least until either one of us should learn differently in which case our minds should remain open to change. An open mind is the mark of a truly educated individual.
