A case of the Monday’s…
Pete really is a buzzkill when it comes to trying to show his daughters cool shit. Not only does she think a fire work is a cloud of blue smoke, now she doesn’t even know how to catch a damn fish… Disappointing, Pete.
Today, we spent a great deal of time talking about the president’s decision to lift the ban on drilling for oil. We learned that demand is a key problem when it comes to drilling for oil. And it’s not just the demand for oil that’s killing us at the pump but as Dan from Michigan let us know the demand for steel, which is used for piping in oil drilling, is going up and the supply has dropped sigificantly, due to China putting a hault on production until after the Olympics.
What’s the solution here people? How can we get ourselves out of this dependence for oil? Is drilling for oil in the OCS the way to go? I think we should take our focus off of oil and get the gears in motion on alternative sources of fuel. Even if drilling for oil is the solution, we are going to be in the same situation we are in now. Let us know your ideas.

Thank you Pete for doing a show on the West Memphis Three later this week. I am glad you read my email. It is scary that in 2008 three men are in prison and one on death row in Arkansas for crimes they didn’t commit and without any physical evidence. I look forward to hearing who you have on the show . Mara Leveritt wrote an excellent book on the crimes. Called the "Devils Knot." I ask everyone to keep a open mind and please listen to this show. You can also go to WWW.WM3.ORG for more information.
THank you
Let the market decide! Crude oil is the backbone of the modern economy. It isn’t going away and government subsidies for alternative industries is just going to produce companies which cannot stand on their own and depend on government forcing say, ethanol on us, when it is not a technology ready to compete on its own.Private companies should be allowed to build new refineries and drill for oil, with the caveat that they deliver what they promise regarding environmental impact.
Those who argue against drilling because we need to move away from greenhouse gas producing oil products, should read this, written by a scientist tasked with modeling Australia’s compliance with Kyoto.
I tend to agree with what was said in an earlier show about oil drilled domestically still having to compete in a foreign market. Whoever is willing to pay the most for it, will prolly get it. I think the now 17 year old EV-1 technology should be exhumed, only this time introduced at a rate that won’t cause the collapse of the whole economy. I thought we were going to be talking about that some day. Asked Pete, haven’t heard back so guess not. oh well. I’ll be reading your link tomorrow Todd.
I’ve found a good resource for energy news from a non-profit free market oriented foundation, the Institute for Energy Research. Their blog addresses energy related items currently in the news.
They critique the Pickens plan Pete has mentioned before, Pitfalls in the Pickens plan
